Frequently Asked Questions:

How can I measure the amount of energy my home / cottage / job site requires?

There are a few ways, but the most accurate method will involve using a Kill A Watt Meter to measure the requirements of each load (device).

What is the difference between "deep cycle" and other types of batteries?

Deep cycle batteries are designed so that they can be discharged of 80% of their capacity, time and time again.

Can I use both solar modules and a wind turbine in the same renewable energy system?

Yes, and it's quite beneficial too. Such a setup is called a 'hybrid system'. While sunlight is plentiful in the summer months, wind speeds are low. The opposite is true of the wintertime: winds are high and sunlight is less abundant. A wind-solar hybrid system takes advantage of the best of both seasons.

What is all this about lead-acid batteries? Isn't using those contrary to 'green' power

The lead-acid recycling programme is very effecient and has been in existence for many years. It is one of the most advanced recycling industries. The lead contained in your car battery right now may have already been in 3 or 4 other batteries.

When deep-cycle batteries are no longer capable of being recharged, they are recycled, the lead reclaimed and reused -- thus keeping it from landfill sites and reducing the amount of lead that is required to be mined for new batteries.
